At UNCSA, Kendall Doub and students meet for the first time

Kendall Doub in WW5 at UNCSA
Before the great snowstorm of 2014 hit town, artist Kendall Doub generously found time to come meet with three morning classes on Wednesday, February 12. At 8am, Janna Levin's "History and Philosophy of Science" course met with Kendall; at 9am, a combined session of Levin's "History and Philosophy of Science" and Mike Wakeford's "Urban Experience" class; at 10am, another section of "Urban Experience." Kendall shared images of great street mural art that he's seen, and a few examples of his own work. Right outside the classroom windows, students could see the decaying wall on which UNCSA's part of the ArtSTEM Mural Project will be installed. We all had a few minutes to talk about the possibilities of capitalizing on the wall's current condition. To some, it's ugly. To some, like Doub, the aging, chipping, unkempt look of the old wall is "beautiful" and sparked some interesting ideas about how it could be incorporated into the mural.
